A judge overseeing a consolidation of New Jersey state NuvaRing lawsuits has thrown out nuvaring lawsuitseven bellwether cases, finding that the plaintiffs did not prove the NuvaRing harmed them, according to court documents. Judge Brian Martinotti issued the summary judgment on April 19, indicating that the plaintiffs had failed to prove their NuvaRing devices caused alleged side effects such as pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thrombosis and stroke, according to court records (In re: NuvaRing Litigation, BER-L-3081-09, Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County). This news comes as parties on both sides are preparing for bellwether trials in the federal multidistrict litigation, a consolidation of federal NuvaRing lawsuits (MDL-1964, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri), set to begin in October.
